Simon Watts of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s track and field team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13th, 2011. At the 2011 CIS Track and Field championship held last weekend in Sherbrooke, Que., Watts, a third-year Kinesiology student from Halifax, N.S. captured a silver medal in the high jump and led the Tigers to a eighth place overall finish at the championship. In the high jump, Simon recorded a 2.1m leap to earn the silver medal. Watts also placed fourth in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 7.13m, establishing a new Dalhousie and Nova Scotia indoor track and field record.

Suzanne Fenerty of the CIS No. 3-ranked and silver medal-winning StFX X-Women hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13th, 2011. Fenerty, a fourth-year Bachelor of Business Administration student from Cole Harbour, N.S., led the X-Women to a silver medal at the 2011 CIS Women’s Hockey Championship this past weekend in Waterloo, Ont. In three games at the national championship, Suzanne registered two goals and added two assists and was named to the tournament all-star team. Fenerty scored StFX’s opening goal in a 4-3 quarter-final victory over the host Laurier Golden Hawks, added a pair of assists in their 4-3 semifinal win over Manitoba and netted the X-Women’s first goal in the gold medal game against McGill where they were defeated 5-3. The silver medal performance was the best result ever for an AUS school in women’s hockey history and the first CIS medal for the X-women hockey program. Suzanne was also named a first team AUS all-star at defence for the second consecutive season as StFX finished the 2010-11 campaign with a perfect 24-0 regular season record, and a 29-1 record including league and playoff action.
