Bill Kiely named Honorary Chair of CIS Women's Hockey Championship

ANTIGONISH, NS – The Organizing Committee for the 2010 CIS Women’s Ice Hockey Championship is pleased to announce Bill Kiely as the Honorary Chairperson for the four-day event, slated for March 11-14th at the StFX Charles V. Keating Centre in Antigonish, NS.

“We are delighted to have Bill Kiely on board as the Honorary Chair of the 2010 CIS Women’s Ice Hockey Championship,” comments StFX Director of Athletics and recreation Leo MacPherson. “Bill has devoted countless hours of work within the StFX family through his involvement with our alumni and various StFX varsity teams. He is a tremendous ambassador for StFX and we are very appreciative for all that he has done for us.”

Bill Kiely is no stranger to StFX University and interuniversity sports. He has been an ardent supporter and builder of StFX Athletics for the past fifty years. His involvement has spanned the areas of publicity, marketing, game announcing, sports writing and general advocacy for StFX Athletics.

\r\n

A StFX graduate of 1967, Bill is a loyal and steadfast supporter of all X-Women and X-Men varsity teams and is an easily identifiable supporter in attendance at all home games, be it on the pitch, court or ice. With experience as a radio commentator, play-by-play announcer and game-day voice of X-Men football (a role he still holds today), Bill has provided his announcing talents to the majority of sports played at StFX at some point in time over the past half-century.

With regards to involvement in interuniversity sports, Bill has served on the organizing committee for the football Uteck Bowl and has been the game-day voice of the national semi-final for the past 25 years. He has organized and hosted StFX alumni events in conjunction with numerous CIS championships over the years involving X-Men and X-Women teams across the country in several different sports. He has also been involved with the broadcasting of the CIS men’s basketball championship in Halifax in years past.

Bill has served on numerous committees at StFX University. He has been involved with Father George Kehoe Endowment Fund events, served on the President’s Advisory Committee on Athletics, chaired the Father Kehoe Golf Classic Committee, and served as the President of the national StFX Alumni Association.

\r\n

An advocate for StFX varsity athletics, Bill has been a loyal and steadfast supporter of StFX University and his contributions to the Department of Athletics over the past fifty years are immeasurable. The Organizing Committee is happy to have him aboard as the Honorary Chairperson for the 2010 CIS Women’s Ice Hockey Championship.
