Ice X-Women remain unbeaten

Oct 29, 2007 - The hockey X-Women remain undefeated in AUS play after the second week of the season with recent weekend wins over UNB and Moncton. On Saturday afternoon in Fredericton the X-Women defeated the UNB Varsity Reds by a 5-2 score. Catie Gavin scored two first period goals to give the X-Women the early edge in the game, while Brayden Ferguson, Christina Davis and Anna Barrett added second period markers to establish a 5-0 lead after two periods of play. UNB countered with two third period goals by Christine Hartnoll and Sarah Sullivan. Brayden Ferguson, Jessica Shannahan and Kelly Boudreau all contributed two assists a piece for the X-Women while Crystal Stewart earned the win in nets, facing 14 shots. The X-Women outshot the Varsity Reds by a 45-14 margin.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon in Moncton the X-Women earned a 4-3 come from behind win over last year's AUS champion Aigles Bleues. After Marieve Provost and Brayden Ferguson exchanged first period goals, Moncton took the lead after two periods of play with goals from Josiane Bisaillon and Valerie Boisdair. Ferguson scored her second goal of the game and seventh of the season 14:52 into the third period while Amanda Church came through with the game winner for X just 39 second later. The X-Women out shot the Aigles Bleues 36-29 with Katie Harvieux earning the win in nets with 26 saves. Kathy Desjardins took the loss for Moncton.\r\n\r\nThe 4-0 X-Women now have a one point lead over the Saint Mary's Huskies in the AUS standings and will be on the road Saturday for a game at Dalhousie before returning to the Keating Centre Sunday afternoon for a 3pm matchup against Mount Allison.
