X-Women open season with wins

Oct 23, 2007 - The hockey X-Women began regular season play this past weekend and earned two wins. Saturday afternoon at home the X-Women hosted UPEI and came away with a 6-1 win. StFX was led by Brayden Ferguson who scored a hatrick and assisted on another goal. Jessica Shanahan, Marilynn Hay and Amanda Church scored the other X markers while Mikaele Ellis replied for the Panthers. The X-Women established a 3-0 lead after the first period of play and increased the lead to 4-0 after two periods. Crystal Stewart earned the win in nets for StFX with the Panthers firing a mere five shots her way. Elizabeth LeGay had 34 saves in the Panther net in the losing effort.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon the X-Women again played a dominant game, handing the St. Thomas Tommies a 6-0 shutout loss. Katie Harvieux earned the win in nets with 9 saves, while the X-Women fired 33 shots to Tommies netminder Liette Arsenault. Brayden Ferguson continued with her hot stick, scoring the X-Women's first goal three minutes into the first period. Carolyn Campbell and Christina Davis also scored first period goals, while Davis added her second marker of the game 7:29 into the third period. Marilynn Hay and Catie Gavin rounded out the scoring for the X-Women.\r\n\r\nAfter home wins, the X-Women will hit the road this weekend for games against UdeM and UNB.
