Ice X-Women starting to roll

Oct 1, 2007 - The hockey X-Women resumed action this past weekend with two more exhibition games. After an exhibition win last weekend over St. Thomas, the X-Women improved their pre-season record to 3-0, recording 5-2 and 6-2 wins over Saint Mary's and UNB, respectively.\r\n\r\nSaturday afternoon at the Keating Centre, Amanda Church led the StFX attack with a hattrick. After a scoreless first period, Church opened the scoring 2:24 into the second frame. The Huskies replied with the next two goals in the game, from the sticks of Zoe Launcelott and Amanda Boulegon. Suzanne Fenerty evened the game for StFX with a power play goal at 12:32. Church scored her second goal of the game and the game winner on the power play just 3:47 into the final frame. Brayden Ferguson added a goal before the game was complete followed by Church with her third of the afternoon for the 5-2 win. Catie Gavin contributed two assists for the blue and white. Crystal Stewart earned the win in nets for the X-Women recording 11 saves, while Danielle Brunet faced 45 shots and had 40 saves for the Huskies.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon, the X-Women hosted the UNB Varsity Reds and after outshooting their oppoents by a 52-9 margin, they came away with the 6-2 win. Six different X-Women appeared on the scoresheet, including Brayden Ferguson, Carolyn Campbell, Marilynn Hay and Amanda Church who all scored goals in the fristr period to establish an early 4-0 StFX lead. Jessica Shannahan and Christina Davis added the other goals for X while Sarah Belmore and Heather Gallant replied for the Varsity Reds. Brayden Ferguson also had three assists for the X-Women while Amanda Church added two assists. Katie Harvieux recorded the win in nets for StFX with 7 saves.\r\n\r\nThe X-Women will travel to Halifax Saturday, Oct. 13 for an exhibition re-match against the Huskies and will return home to host the UPEI Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2:00 pm.
