X-Women pick up 2 more home ice wins

Feb 11, 2008 - The X-Women kept their unbeaten streak alive this past weekend with wins over St. Thomas and UPEI at home at the Keating Centre. Saturday afternoon they had a close 2-1 victory over the Tommies in the game that saw the X-Women outshoot St. Thomas by a 34-6 margin. The Tommies opened the scoring in the game with a second period powerplay goal from Catherine Boudreau. Laura Grant replied with a powerplay goal for X at the 14:25 minute mark of the second period and AUS leading scorer Brayden Ferguson notched the game winner 12 minutes into the third and final period. Katie Harvieux earned the win in nets for the X-Women while Mia Leander took the loss for the Tommies.

On Sunday afternoon the X-Women handed the struggling UPEI Panthers a 5-0 loss. Catie Gavin, Lindsay Brown, Jessica Shanahan and Anna Barrett scored first period goals to establish the early lead and Amanda Church added a goal in the second period to round out the scoring. Suzanne Fenerty had two assists in the game and Crystal Stewart recorded the shutout win in nets for X who outshot their opponents by a lopsided 44-7 margin.

With the 19-0 winning streak intact, the X-Women will be looking to make it a perfect 21-0 on the season as they play their final two regular season games this week. Thursday night they will host the Dalhousie Tigers (9-10) at 7pm at the Keating Centre and Sunday afternoon they’ll travel to Sackville, NB for an afternoon game against the Mount Allison Mounties. The X-Women have already clinched first place in the AUS conference and a first round bye in the AUS championship tournament coming up Feb. 22-24 at Saint Mary’s University.
