Shanahan leads X to 12-0

Jan 7, 2008 - The X-Women hockey team continued their winning ways and extended their undefeated streak in AUS league play this season to 12 games with two more wins over the weekend. Saturday afternoon the X-Women travelled to Dalhousie and came home with a 6-1 win over the Tigers. Jessica Shanahan and Sheila ‰Û÷Junior‰Ûª Kelly each scored two goals a piece, with Kelly Boudreau and Brayden Ferguson adding single markers. Marilynn Hay had two assists in the game for the X-Women who lead the Tigers 2-0 after the first period and 4-1 after two. Robin Mullen scored the lone goal for Dalhousie. Crystal Stewart earned the win in nets for the X-Women with 15 saves while Kristen Ladouceur took the loss for the Tigers who were out shot by the X-Women by a 40-16 margin.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon the X-Women faced the second place Saint Mary‰Ûªs Huskies at home at the Keating Centre and came away with a 5-0 shutout win. Katie Harvieux earned the shutout victory in nets for X with 20 saves while Jillian MacIsaac took the loss for the Huskies, facing 28 shots. Jessica Shanahan opened the scoring for the X-Women with a goal half-way through the first period, Brayden Ferguson added to the lead with a second period goal and the X-Women opened the game up in the third period scoring three unanswered goals. Shanahan scored her second of the game, with Christina Davis and Sheila Kelly earning the other markers.\r\n\r\nThe wins help the X-Women improve their lead (12-0) atop the AUS conference with 24 points, while the Huskies (8-1-1) remain in second place with 17 points, followed by Moncton (6-3-1) with 13 points. The X-Women have a break in their winter schedule and do not play any league games this upcoming weekend. They will resume play on the road on Jan. 19th and 20th with games against UNB and Moncton.
