Perfect 10 at the break

Nov 26, 2007 - The hockey X-Women improved their undefeated league record to 10-0 this past weekend after an 8-0 win over UNB and a 4-3 win over Moncton. The first place X-Women hosted the UNB Varsity Reds at the Keating Centre Saturday afternoon and dominated the game, outshooting their opponents by a 35-3 margin on route to the easy 8-0 victory. Brayden Ferguson led the X attack with a hatrick and two assists. Jessica Shanahan and Christina Davis each scored a goal and contributed two assists while Kelly Boudreau, Catie Gavin and Marilynn Hay also scored goals for the X-Women. Crystal Stewart was barely tested in the StFX net for the win while Amy Howard handled the netminding duties for the Varsity Reds.\r\n\r\nSunday‰Ûªs game against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues was a closer affair, though the X-Women came out on top with the 4-3 victory. Kelly Boudreau opened the scoring for the X-Women with a first period goal, then Moncton took a one goal lead after goals were scored by Marieve Provost and Marie-France Noel. The lead switched again after Anna Barrett and Catie Gavin scored second period goals to give the X-Women the edge, but Moncton kept fighting back as Kristine Labrie tied the game at 7:40 in the third period. Christina Davis scored the game winning goal for X just a few minutes later and the X-Women were able to hold onto the lead for their tenth win of the season. Katie Harvieux earned the win in nets for StFX with 20 saves, while Kathy Desjardins took the loss for the Aigles Bleues.\r\n\r\nThe X-Women are in sole possession of first place in the AUS conference, three points ahead of second place Saint Mary‰Ûªs. Following the Christmas break they will travel to a game at Dalhousie on Jan. 5 and will return to host the Huskies at home on Jan. 6.
