Well balanced attack leads X-Women to 65-44 win over Tigers

Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Women picked up their second win of the season with a 65-44 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Friday night on Coach K Court.

STFX was led by player of the game Shannon Neita (Toronto, ON) who was strong on both sides of ball, netting 11 points and 3 assists, while hauling in a game-high 12 rebounds and contributing 2 steals and 3 blocks.

Ekaterina Karchevskaya (Mogilev, BY) scored 15 points for the X-Women and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Kaitlyn Ferrier (Calgary, AB) was the player of the game and top scorer for the Tigers with 17 points and 5 rebounds on the night as Dalhousie remains winless on the season.

Sydney Guker-Wickie (Kitchener, ON) scored 15 and was the top rebounder for the Tigers with 9.

The first quarter was low scoring, 12-8 in favour of the X-Women. The Tigers struggled on offense, going 3-17 from field goal range.

STFX continued to outpace the visitors in the second quarter, scoring 14 points to DAL's eight, as the blue and white took a 26-16 lead into halftime.

The Tigers turned things around after the halftime break and went on an 8-0 run to start the third quarter, closing the gap to a two-point X lead at 26-24. The regrouped and held onto the lead, 40-32 after three, despite being edged 16-14 in the frame.

STFX then went on their own run, 7-0, to start the fourth and never looked back. Ella Brazier (Windsor, ON) nailed a three-pointer just over midway through to give X a 52-36 advantage and put the game out of reach as they played on for the 65-44 win.

It was a well-balanced offensive attack for the home team who saw all 12 players hit the scoresheet. STFX also outrebounded the Tigers 46-29.

Dalhousie will be back in action on Sunday as they host the UPEI Panthers in a 2:00 pm game.

The X-Women next take to the court on Friday, November 24th when they travel the Halifax to face the Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is 6:00 pm.
