X-Women defeat St. Thomas in tournament action

Halifax, NS – The StFX X-Women improved to 2-0 at the MSVU Dyrick McDermott Invitational tournament with a 67-52 win over the St. Thomas Tommies Sunday afternoon.

The X-Women held leads of 19-17 after the first quarter and 37-32 at halftime. They increased their lead to a ten-point advantage after three quarters of play and did not let the Tommies get back into the game in the second half.

Freshman guard Jessica Miller scored a game-high 22 points for the X-Women and added four rebounds and three assists. Player of the game Kendra Smith had a double-double night, scoring 11 points off the bench and hauling in 10 rebounds. Holley Scott added 10 points and four rebounds for X.

Replying for the Tommies was Jayme Hunt and Bridget Frazee, each with 10 points apiece. Player of the game Sara Banks scored seven and had two rebounds.

The X-Women next see action on Monday at 2:00 pm when they will play the host MSVU Mystics, also undefeated, with the winner claiming the 2017 tournament title.
