X-Women fall to Tigers in Halifax

(Halifax, NS) - The Dalhousie Tigers earned a key four-point victory over the StFX X-Women Tuesday at the Dalplex. AUS leading scorer Courtney Thompson led the Tigers with a game-high 18 points on 5-10 shooting as they used a huge third quarter to propel themselves to a 68-52 victory.

The Tigers now sit in second place in the AUS with a 6-3 record while the X-Women are in sixth spot with at 4-6.

The X-Women opened up a 12-9 lead on the Tigers, but they went on to allow seven straight points to end the first quarter and the Tigers went up 16-12 after the first ten minutes of play.

The Tigers were hot from deep in the opening quarter, hitting two of three attempts.

After a gritty second quarter that saw both teams put ten points on the board, the Tigers maintained their four-point lead going into halftime at 26-22.

The X-Women couldn't get things going offensively as they only connected on 30.8% (4-13) of their attempts from the field in the third quarter, and the Tigers capitalized and outscored the X-Women 24-9 in the quarter, leading by 19 going into the fourth quarter.

The lead would get trimmed to 14 late in the final frame, but that's as close as the X-Women would get and the Tigers came away with the 68-52 victory.

Kristy Moore chipped in 12 points for the Tigers in the win while Tessa Stammberger added seven points and seven rebounds. Robbi Daley provided a spark off the bench for the Tigers with 11 points on 5-8 shooting.

Lindsay Lessard led the X-Women with 11 points and eight boards in the loss, while Kolbi Roper also chipped in 11. Jamellia Clark had ten points and five boards off the pine for the X-Women.

The Tigers will try to win back-to-back games when they face the UNB Varsity Reds on Saturday in Fredericton, while the X-Women will take on the Cape Breton Capers next Tuesday in Sydney.
