X-Women basketball nets Nova Scotia recruit Kendra Smith

ANTIGONISH, N.S. - StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to announce that North Preston, N.S. native Kendra Smith has committed to the X-Women basketball program for the 2015-16 season.

Coach Jones comments,"Kendra is a fantastic recruit for us. Her commitment to the game of basketball at an elite level has come later in her youth, which is to our benefit as many coaches were not aware of her talent."

"We have been interested in Kendra since her grade ten year. She is a smart post player who has great hands and feet, but more importantly she has a very good feel for the game, which allows her to rebound and block shots defensively much better than other young players who are her height."

The 6'4" post attends Auburn High School in Cole Harbour, N.S. where she was an NSSAF high school all-Star in grade 11, as well as the most improved player of the year. Kendra also played minor basketball for the North Preston Bulls and the Eastside Wolves AAU team out of Dartmouth, N.S. She was named an all-star at the Maine Gold Rush summer team camp this past summer.

Her brother Shaquille is currently in his fourth year as a guard with the Acadia Axemen. Kendra will be enrolling in the forensic psychology program at StFX next fall and is no stranger to the Antigonish campus, having been a junior counsellor at the Xavier basketball camp last August.

"I feel ecstatic about starting at StFX next fall," comments Smith. "I grew up watching X-Women and X-Men basketball so it is a very exciting feeling to know that I will be playing for the X-Women next year!"
