X-Women basketball welcomes NCAA transfer Britney Molina

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to welcome El Paso, Texas native Britney Molina to the X-Women program for the 2014-15 season.

"Britney is exactly who we are looking for to fill the shooting guard position here at X," comments Coach Jones. "She is a very skilled three-point shooter who has a calm, cool confidence. Most importantly, Britney is mentally tough, she does not get bothered by pressure, which is an essential characteristic for a scorer to have. She is very appreciative of this second chance at college basketball and is truly motivated to perform at a high level for our X-Women program."

The 5'7" shooting guard attended J. M. Hanks High School where she was team captain, most valuable player, female athlete of the year and first team city all-star in both grades 11 and 12. She was also the district most valuable player in grade 12, averaging 16 points per game and sinking 68 three-point shots in helping to lead J. M. Hanks to a 16-0 league record, 26-9 overall record and a trip to the Texas high school Elite 8 championship.

Molina finished her high school career with 1,158 total points and played in the MacDonald's senior showcase following her senior year. A multi-sport athlete, she was also a member of the high school volleyball and softball teams. Most recently Molina played for Regis University, an NCAA Division II school in Denver, Colorado. With CIS transfer rules, she is eligible to play for the X-Women in January, 2015. She will be entering the faculty of business at StFX and comments, "Having the opportunity to play basketball and attend a university in another country is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

"I feel honored to be able to attend StFX and I feel blessed to be joining a highly respected, talented, well-coached basketball program. I am very excited about the future that StFX holds for me."

Molina joins Jamellia Clark, Carolyn Smith and Samantha Robertson as the newest members of the X-Women basketball squad.
