Acadia rolls to hoop win over X-Women

The Acadia Axewomen outscored the St. Francis Xavier X-Women in every quarter en route to an 86-62 win in the opening game of the Thunder Selects Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament at the Homberg Centre in Halifax Friday afternoon.

The three-pronged attack of Lindsay Harris, Emily Nkosi and Abbey Duiner spearheaded the Axewomen with 22, 21 and 20 points, respectively. Lia St. Pierre, with 16 and Kolbi Roper, 13, were the only X-Women in double digits.

Acadia held quarter leads of 23-15, 51-36 and 76-54 and did much of their damage from long range, connecting on nine of 25 three-point attempts.

The X-Women, on the other hand, managed to make just two of 16 three-pointers.

The first post-Christmas game also brought out both teams rust as Axewomen committed 31 turnovers while the X-Women had 26 miscues.

In late games, Dalhousie was taking on Lakehead and the host Huskies met Manitoba. The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday with three games each day.
