Roper shines in X-Women victory

Kolbi Roper scored 26 points to lead the StFX X-Women to a 76-62 win over the Dalhousie Tigers in AUS basketball action Friday evening at Oland Centre in Antigonish.

After a four-point first half, the second-year post from North Vancouver, B.C. exploded for 22 second-half points, including 15 consecutive for her team. Roper, who collected a double-double, added 12 rebounds, three steals and one assist.

Rebecca Sheehan and Kiley DeLong, off the bench, scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the blue and white. Lia St. Pierre chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for the X-Women.

The X-Women led 35-29 at halftime.

Robbi Daley led three Tigers in double figures with 15 points. Keisha Brown added 14, while Tessa Stammberger contributed 12 points. Stammberger also had eight rebounds and four steals for Dalhousie.

The X-Women outscored the Tigers 20-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

With the win, StFX improves to 3-2, while Dalhousie falls to 3-1 as they suffer their first loss of the season.

Saturday evening, the X-Women will host the CIS #4 ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies (6-0). Game time is 6 p.m. at Oland Centre.
