X-Women basketball welcomes Kimberley Taylor

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women’s basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to welcome Toronto native Kimberley Taylor to the X-Women program for the 2013-14 season.

“Kimberley Taylor was one of the most sought after recruits in the country this season,” comments Coach Jones. “She was presented with several NCAA and CIS opportunities, so we are very excited that she has chosen to join the X-Women program.”

“Kim’s best characteristics extend beyond basketball; she is an extremely hard worker, but more importantly, she has outstanding leadership qualities,” continues Jones. “As a basketball player she is another well-rounded, tall, talented wing to add to our ever improving team. Kim’s energy and commitment will be noticeable immediately and I believe she will fit perfectly into our StFX family.”

A 6’0” wing who attended St. Joseph’s College School in Toronto, Taylor was named team captain and received the most valuable player award for four consecutive seasons, from grades nine through to 12. She helped lead St. Joseph’s to the city finals in 2012, 2011 and 2010, and received the school’s athlete of the year award from 2009 through to 2012.

Taylor also played for the Scarborough Blues and Advantage Basketball in the Ontario JUEL league, as well as ‘A’ Game AAU basketball in the summer of 2011. She was featured in several prominent media outlets for her basketball ability, including FAN590, Rogers TV and The Toronto Star.

In addition to her talents on the basketball court, Taylor was a Toronto city high jump champion in 2010 and 2012 and is an honor roll student. She spent her final high school semester at the prestigious Ontario Earth Science School program and will be enrolled in Aquatic Resources with Earth Science while attending StFX University.

Reflecting upon her decision to attend StFX, Taylor commented, “I am very happy with my decision to be a part of the X-Women basketball program for my university career. I am very thankful for the opportunity and I am excited about the next 4-5 years.”
“When it came down to it, I fell in love with the strong StFX community, the lovely campus in Nova Scotia, and the outstanding academic reputation and I really wanted to be coached by Augy Jones. The visit to campus was fantastic and really gave me a great feeling about StFX that no other school had offered.”

Taylor’s high school head coach Francesco Malfitano offered the following, “Kim is an extremely dynamic individual who possesses exceptional leadership skills, athletic ability and work ethic. Her dedication to success was instrumental in her personal athletic development, her academic achievements and the accomplishments of the St Joseph’s College School’s basketball program.

“I, along with the school administration, staff and her teammates are extremely happy that she has made the decision to attend StFX University next year. We wish her luck and look forward to her success at the next level.”

Taylor joins previously announced X-Women basketball recruits, Mairead Dunn, a 6’4” post player from Sarnia, Ont. and 5’9” wing Megan Thompson from Fall River, N.S.
