Two X-Women teams will be hosting fundraisers this month. The first annual X-Women basketball women’s achievement brunch will take place on Saturday, March 23rd, followed by the seventh annual X-Women hockey evening of excellence on Thursday, March 28th.

The Women’s Achievement Brunch, presented by the X-Women Basketball program, is scheduled for 10:00 am on March 23rd at the Charles V. Keating Centre conference rooms. The X-Women will honor veteran high school head coach Gail MacDougall at the brunch. Gail has been the head coach at Dr. J. H. Gillis high school for the past 32 years, supplying the X-Women with 25 players. She hot the 800 win coaching milestone this past season and is a three-time provincial champion.

Holly MacKenzie will be the guest speaker at the achievement brunch. A StFX alumnus and former Nike Basketball employee, Holly is currently the Toronto Raptors beat reporter for Sprotsnet.ca. She is ranked 19th of out 30 ‘must follow’ NBA twitter accounts, and is a reporter for SLAM Magazine.

Tickets for the X-Women basketball achievement brunch cost $30 for individuals or $240 for a table of eight. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets may contact StFX Athletics fund development coordinator David Joyce at 902-867-3914 or djoyce@stfx.ca.

The seventh annual X-Women hockey Evening of Excellence gala event is scheduled for March 28th at 6:00 pm at the Charles V. Keating Centre hospitality suites. The X-Women invite supporters to share in a fun-filled evening of excellence to show appreciation to the X-Women and their parents.

Supporters will enjoy a great selection of fine foods, provided by Gabrieau’s Bistro, along with Labatt’s refreshments. The X-Women will be playing the Antigonish Old Dogs hockey team at 7:30 pm. There will be silent auction items set-up throughout the game, with a live auction and dance to follow in the Keating Centre conference rooms. 

Tickets for the X-Women hockey evening of excellence cost $40 each and are available for purchase by contacting X-Women head coach David Synishin at 902-863-8882 or dsynishi@stfx.ca, or by visiting the Athletics office in the StFX Oland Centre, Monday – Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Proceeds raised from the fundraisers will support each respective X-Women team, in their recruiting efforts, out-of-conference competitions and athletic scholarships.
