X-Women basketball welcomes Megan Thompson

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women’s basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to welcome Fall River, N.S. native Megan Thompson to the X-Women program for the 2013-14 season.

“Megan is the exact type of player we are looking for as we build our program into a championship contender,” comments Jones. “She fits in well with the talent we already have as a skilled, smart, versatile basketball player who is a student of the game.”

“When we are looking at high school players, we are often recognizing talent that does not show up on a stat sheet,” continues Jones. “Not only did Megan have a great grade 12 season at Lockview statistically, but she continuously demonstrated the ability to perform the intricate offensive and defensive fundamentals that are key to progressing at the CIS level.”

A 5’9” wing player at Lockview High School, Thompson has played the sport since grade nine when she was named the rookie of the year. She picked up the team’s most valuable player award in her grade 11 season, and was a Metro league all-star for the past two years.

Megan helped lead her team to the city and provincials this past season, and has also played for five years with the Thunder Selects basketball program. An honors student, she will be enrolled in the business administration program at StFX this coming fall and already has a family connection to the Antigonish, N.S. school as her father and brother are X alumni.

Thompson comments, “StFX has a reputation for both academic and athletic excellence, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to be part of the X-Women basketball program.”

“StFX has always been a part of my family, so I am looking forward to continuing the Xaverian tradition while representing the school on the basketball court and in the community. I have been very fortunate to play for a number of great coaches, and I am looking forward to continuing this experience with Coach Jones. I am excited to get on the basketball court with my X-Women teammates next season.”
