X-Women Basketball Weekend Preview- February 4th & 5th vs. UNB

The StFX X-Women embark on a road trip this weekend to Fredericton, N.B. They will play Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, both games against the UNB Varsity Reds. The X-Women trail the V-Reds by two points for the sixth and final playoff spot, although the X-Women have already clinched their playoff ticket as the host team for the March 2-4 event. Intensity will still be high as each team is battling for position in the standings.

X-Women vs. Varsity Reds:  The season series is split 1-1 as the X-Women took the first game 76-68 while they lost the next game 74-66. Both games were played in Antigonish, N.S. This weekend will mark the last time these two teams will play each other until the playoffs start. Both games are worth two points apiece in the AUS standings.

Key Players:  The X-Women have been led by freshman guard Vanessa Pickard all season long. Pickard is seventh in the league I scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. Donisha Young has also been valuable to the X-Women this season, sitting eighth overall in the league averaging 15 points per game. The Varsity Reds have been led by the dominant play from Claire Colborne who is averaging 21 points a game, she has been a force for UNB all season.

Game Notes:  These two teams match up well together. StFX is trailing the Varsity Reds by two points for the last playoff spot so it is important for them to come out of the gate flying. The X-Women have been getting great contributions from Young, Pickard and Kirsten Jones who have been providing timely leadership for the blue and white. It will be of the utmost importance for the X-Women to shut down Claire Colborne who is lighting the league up this season for the Varsity Reds.
