Tigers trounce visiting X-Women

The Dalhousie Tigers trounced the StFX X-Women 71-42 in AUS basketball action Sunday afternoon in Halifax.

After jumping out to a 23-14 lead after the first quarter, the home team cruised to victory in front of 200 fans at Dalplex. The X-Women shot 28 percent from the field, scoring only seven points in the fourth quarter.

Anna von Maltzahn led the Tigers with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The Tigers outrebounded the X-Women 60-45, including 29-17 on the offensive glass.

Guards Courtney Thompson and Rachael Harrison with 16 and 11 points, respectively, scored in double digit for the Tigers.

The Tigers scored 33 points off 32 X-Women turnovers.

Kiley DeLong, with nine, was the top scorer for the X-Women. She added nine rebounds and a blocked shot.

Donisha Young recorded six points and corralled 10 rebounds, while Kolbi Roper added seven points, two rebounds and a blocked shot.

With the loss, the X-Women drop to seventh place in the AUS with a 5-7 record for 10 points.

The blue and white will return to action this weekend with a pair of road games versus the UNB Varsity Reds (4-9) in Fredericton.

The X-Women will host the AUS Championship from Friday, Mar. 2 to Sunday, Mar. 4 at Oland Centre.
