X-Men runners compete at DAL Classic

The X-Men track and field team competed at the Dalhousie Classic over the weekend in their final meet prior to the AUS championship.

In the 60m dash, three X-Men qualified for the final run, including Dylan Hollohan who was the top StFX finisher in 6th spot, crossing the line in 7.44 seconds. Cauchy Muamba was 8th in 7.49 seconds and Connor Demone was 10th at 7.60. Derek Burden finished the heats in 11th place, just out of qualification time with a 7.62 second sprint.

Burden was fourth behind three Dalhousie runners in the 300m dash, finishing with a time of 38.92 seconds. Nathaniel Minichiello was 6th for StFX at 39.90, while Stuart MacNeil (41.27) placed 13th.

Minichiello and MacNeil also ran in the 600m race, along with Kyle Tramble. Tramble placed 7th overall with a time of 1:25.19, with Minichiello (1:31.63) coming in 11th and MacNeil (1:32.43) in 13th.

In the 1000m run, Kenton Sportak was the lone StFX competitor. He placed second overall amongst nine runners with a time of 2:37.70. Sportak also had a strong showing in the 1500m event, taking his second straight 2nd place finish, posting a time of 4:03.84. StFX teammate Lee McCarron was third, finishing at 4:07.41.

Petr Doubravsky was the only X-Man to run the 3000m event, winning it easily with a time of 8:33.43, 20 seconds faster then his nearest competitor.

\r\n

The X-Men will prepare this week for the AUS championship which takes place this weekend at the Universite de Moncton on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28. Dalhousie has taken home the AUS banner for the past 8 consecutive years, and have won 17 titles in the past 19 years. The X-Men have never won an AUS team title.
