Doubravsky wins 2 races to open track season

The X-Men track and field team opened their indoor season with an invitational meet Saturday in Moncton, NB. Other AUS teams competing included the Universite de Moncton, Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s and Mount Allison, along with several club teams.

In the sprinting events, several X-Men competed in the 60m event, including Cauchy Muamba, Dylan Hollohan, Derek Burden and Connor Demone. Muamba was the lone X-Man to crack the top 10 in the final heat, placing 5th amongst AUS runners and 8th overall at 7:43 seconds. Derek Burden and teammate Olajide Ojuawo ran the 300m race with Ojuawo placing 6th (10th overall), running in 40.17 seconds and Burden placing 8th (12th overall) at 41.03.

Five X-Men ran the 600m race with John Corbit the top X finisher in second spot, running in 1:25.46. Kyle Tramble was 4th at 1:29.00, and he was followed by Nathaniel Minichiello (1:31.54) in 6th, Ryan Hawkrigg (1:33.50) in 8th and Stuart MacNeil (1:34.42) in 9th place amidst the 14 total runners.

Corbit earned top spot in the 1000m race, crossing the finish line at 2:34.36. Kenton Sportak was third for the X-Men at 2;41.99, while Kyle Tramble (2:43.76) was fifth. Hawkrigg also competed for X and was 8th at 2:52.32.

Petr Doubravsky won a pair of races for the X-Men as he was the first runner to break the tape in both the 1500m and 3000m races. In the 1500m, Doubravsky ran in 4:03.48, while he ran the 3000m in 8:43.97. Also competing in the 1500m were Kenton Sportak (4:14.51) in second, Connor MacGuire (4:19.69) in fourth, Rob Lavers (4:28.62) in sixth and Zach MacDonald (4:40.90) in seventh.

Three teammates joined Doubravsky in the 3000m, including Connor MacGuire in second place at 9:21.79, Rob Lavers (9”40.52) in third (5th overall) and Zach MacDonald (9:56.80) in fourth spot (7th overall).

\r\n

The X-Men competed against three Universite de Moncton teams in the 4x200m relay race and came in second place at 1:42.21. Team members included Connor Demone, Jide Ojuawo, Derek Burden and Nathanial Minichiell. The Moncton A team won the race with a time of 1:38.85.

Dylan Hollohan was the lone X-Men jumper in the meet, competing in the long jump. He placed fifth amongst AUS competitors and seventh overall with a jump of 5.41m.

In the shot put events, Stewart Walsh competed for X in both the 7.26kg shotput and 35lb shot. With a throw of 12.73m, Walsh placed fifth in the 7.26kg shotput, and was third (8th overall) in the 35lb shotput at 10.70m.

\r\n

Next on the indoor meet schedule for the X-Men is an invitational at Dalhousie University in Halifax this Sunday afternoon.
