X-Men track athletes compete at AUS championship

The X-Men track & field team competed this past weekend at the AUS championship at the Universite de Moncton and as a team tied for third place overall. The X-Men accumulated 47.5 points, as did the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Dalhousie won the championship with 144.5 points while Moncton placed second with 88.5.

X-Men athletes competed in numerous running, jumping and throwing events over the course of the two-day championship.

\r\n

In the 60m sprint event, Cauchy Muamba of the X-Men placed third overall with a time of 7.23 seconds. Michael Bawol won the event for Dalhousie at 7.03.

\r\n

Four X-Men competed in the 300m dash. John MacLellan qualified for the final and was 4th overall at 39.02. Kris Wignes was 10th (40.89) followed by teammates Nathaniel Minichiello in 11th (41.24) and Chris Brayley in 12th (42.26). Stuart MacNeil was the lone X competitor in the men’s 600m race, and was 8th crossing the line at 1:32.32.

In the 1000m race, Kyle Tramble placed 8th overall for the X-Men finishing with a time of 2:42.93 amongst the 11 competitors. In the 1500m event Tramble was 5th running in at 4:18.37. Teammate Lee McCarron earned a second place showing at 4:01.12. With only four competitors in the men’s 3000m race, McCarron won his second silver medal of the championship finishing the race at 8:59.45 behind Dalhousie’s Russell Christie at 8:43.42.

The X-Men competed in all three relay events earning 2 third place finishes and 1 fourth place result. In the 4x200m relay, the team of Chris Brayley, Nathaniel Minichiello, Kris Wignes and Cauchy Muamba were third (1:44.94) behind Dalhousie (1:36.25) and Moncton (1:37.12). Stuart MacNeil, Minichiello, Kyle Tramble and Wignes were fourth in the 4x400m relay race, finishing at 3:53.37.

Rounding out the relays in the 4x800m event, Brent Addison, MacNeil, Tramble and Lee McCarron were third overall at 8:34.59 behind Dalhousie and Moncton.

In the jumping events, Paul Bunyan was the lone X-Men competing in both the long jump and triple jump. He placed 5th in the long jump with a jump of 5.74m, and was 4th in the triple jump at 12.12m.

Stewart Walsh was the only X-Men to compete in the throwing events and earned two second place finishes in both the shot put and 35lb weight throw. Walsh threw 11.82m in the shot put and 12.26m in the weight throw. Saint Mary’s Ramey Garrett won both events.
