X-Men travel to Montreal for McGill Team Challenge track meet

The StFX indoor track and field team travelled to Montreal this past weekend and participated in the country’s largest university meet at McGill University. Over 550 athletes competed in 36 events at the Tomlinson Fieldhouse at the 14th annual McGill Team Challenge.

The X-Men sent 10 athletes consisting of sprinters, long distance runners and throwers.

\r\n

Cauchy Muamba represented the X-Men in the men’s 60m dash, finishing the preliminaries in 20th spot overall in a time of 7.27 seconds. The top 15 runners advanced through to the final round.

\r\n

In the men’s 300m dash, three X-Men competed. Nathaniel Minichiello finished 54th (40.24), Chris Brayley was 57th (41.36) and unfortunately John MacLellan was disqualified from the race.

\r\n

Kyle Tramble was the lone X competitor in the 1000m race, placing 12th with a time of 2:38.25 amongst 32 runners. He also ran the 1500m event and was 32nd overall (4:17.23). Lee McCarron placed 16th in the 1500m with a time of 4:04.85 and Robert Lavers was 34th (4:17.77).

In the men’s 3000m event, Lee McCarron was again the top X finisher, this time cracking the top ten in 7th spot with a time of 8:47.17. Robert Lavers (9:14.50) and Brent Addison (9:15.76) were 18th and 19th, respectively.

The X-Men 4x200m relay team consisting of Nathaniel Minichiello, Chris Brayley, John MacLellan and Cauchy Muamba placed 13th in that event with a time of 1:37.69. York won the relay event with a time of 1:28.62, followed by Sherbrooke (1:29.04) and Ottawa (1:32.26).

Two X-Men competed in the shot put event. Daniel Arpin placed 7th overall with a throw of 11.54m, while Stewart Walsh was 9th at 10.65m. Walsh also participated in ther weight throw, placing 7th with a throw of 10.28m.

\r\n

Next on the schedule for the X-Men track team are two meets at Dalhousie University on Feb. 7 and Feb. 21.
