X-Women track season opens in Moncton

The X-Women indoor track and field team began AUS competition this past Saturday at the Jump Start Moncton Open in New Brunswick. StFX athletes competed in numerous running and jumping disciplines.  

In sprinting, three X-Women qualified for the 60m dash final. Bridget Brennan crossed the line in 5th place for X at 8:50. Her teammates Nadine Otten (8:52) and Jillian Nolan (8:57) followed in 7th and 8th spots, respectively.

Second year runner Eilish MacQuarrie came home with two first place finishes for the X-Women. She won the 300m dash in a time of 43.00 seconds, then followed up with a win in the 600m, finishing in 1:43.37. Heidi Stirling was the next best X-Woman in both races. She placed 3rd in the 300m with a time of 43.36 and was a very close second behind MacQuarrie in the 600m at 1:43.39.

Also competing in the 300m dash for StFX were Brennan (44.56) who came fourth and Nolan (46.10) in sixth.
Sarah Deveau ran in the 600m race and came fourth overall with a time of 1:46.00. Deveau also ran to a fourth place showing in the 1000m race, clocking a time of 3:20.75. Fellow X-Woman Liz O’Connell was third in the 1000m at 3:15.94.

In the distance races, both the 1500m and 3000m races were dominating by StFX competitors. Kendra MacNeil won the women’s age 18-19 3000m race, posting a time of 11:41.61, while Melissa Hardy took home two first place finishes in the women’s 1500m and 3000m races.

Hardy ran the 1500m in a time of 4:59.98 and the 3000m in 10:33.79. Teammates Natalie Kannenberg was second in both races. Kannenberg ran 5:00.40 in the 1500m and 10:35.36 in the 3000m.

In the women’s 3000m race, Herron (10:49.28), Zarins (10:52.15), Manuel (11:16.61) and Anderson (11:19.07) placed third through sixth places, respectively.

Nadine Otten was the lone X-Woman to compete in the 60m hurdles and she came in second place with a time of 9.90 seconds.

In the jumping events, first year athlete Lauren Agnew placed third in the high jump (1.55m) and fourth in the women’s age 18-19 long jump (4.41m). Bridget Brennan was fourth in the women’s age 20-34 long jump with a 4.67m jump.
