X-Women finish second at AUS Track & Field Championship

The StFX X-Women track and field team finished in second place overall this past weekend at the Subway AUS Track and Field Championship in Moncton, NB. The X-Women collected 15 medals in total, amassing four gold, seven silver and four bronze for a total of 113 points. Dalhousie claimed the AUS banner with 140 points.  

Susie Lajoie was dynamite for the X-Women, winning gold in both the triple jump and 60m hurdles, along with a silver medal in the weight throw. Lajoie also received the highest accolade of the weekend, taking home her second consecutive AUS Female championship MVP award. In addition to her three AUS medals, she placed fourth in the shot put, sixth in the long jump and 12th in the 60m dash. Lajoie is now the two-time defending AUS champion in the 60m hurdles.

Veteran StFX distance runner Kelly MacDonald put in a strong weekend performance, winning gold in the 3000m run and silver in the 1500m.

The X-Women received their fourth gold medal when Tory Anderson, Sarah Deveau, Jessica White and Liz O’Connell finished first in the 4x800m relay.

Heidi Stirling led the way in the silver medal department for the X-Women as she collected three.  Stirling won silver in the 600m run, and was a member of the 4x200m relay team along with Bridget Brennan, Celeste Black and Eilish MacQuarrie. The 4x400m relay team also took home silver and consisted of Stirling, Chloe Froelich, MacQuarrie and Black. 

Liz O’Connell and Melissa Hardy rounded out the silver medalling for the X-Women as O’Connell collected her second medal of the weekend in the 1000m run and Hardy was the runner-up in the 3000m race, next to her teammate MacDonald.  

Sarah Deveau started the bronze brigade for StFX as she finished third in the 600m run. Jessica White won bronze in the 1000m race. O’Connell completed the trifecta of gold, silver and bronze as she finished third in the 1500m, while Bridget Brennan collected a bronze medal for the blue and white in the long jump.
