X-Women win gold in 600m, 1000m & 3000m events in Halifax
The StFX X-Women track and field team competed in the Nova Scotia Open, held at the Canada Games Center Halifax this past Saturday. The X-Women competed in the 60m dash, 300m dash, 600m run, 1000m run, 1500m run, 3000m run, long jump and triple jump. 

In the 60 meter dash StFX had four runners finish in the top 19 out of 31. Cassie Dobsoh (8.40) finished 8th place, followed by Bridget Brennan (8.46) in 9th, Monica Mitchell (8.56) in 11th and Morgan Priske (8.88) in 19th. 

In the 300m dash the X-Women had 7 runners finish in the top 19 out of 25. Heidi Stirling (43.81) finished in 5th place, followed by Bridget Brennan (44.78) in 8th, Eilish Macquarrie (45.81) in 11th, Celeste Black (45.89) in 12th, Monica Mitchell (47.17) in 16th, Cassie Dobosh (47.35) in 17th and Morgan Priske (47.67) in 19th. 

The X-Women had a great showing in the 600 meter run placing 4 runners in the top 7 out of 13 contestants.  Freshman sprinter Eilish Macquarrie won the race with a time of 1:41.68. Teammate Heidi Stirling came 3rd at 1:42.25, followed by Celeste Black (1:44.51) in 6th and Chloe Froelich (1:44.63) in 7th. 

The 1000 meter run was also a huge success for the X-Women, placing 5 runners in the top 6 out of 19.  Liz O’Connell earned the second gold medal for the X-Women on the day, winning the 1000m race in a time of 3:03.37. Jessica White (3:04.22), Kathryn Tuck (3:05.47), and Chloe Froelich (3:12.03) finished behind her in 2nd through 4th positions, while Sarah Deveau (3:22.02) was 6th overall.

StFX competed strongly in the 1500 meter run, placing 4 runners in the top 11 out of 14.  Kelly Macdonald (4:46) finished 2nd place, followed by Tory Anderson (5:03.49) in 5th, Lynette Manuel (5:16.19) in 8th and Emily Taylor (5:34.02) in 11th. 

The X-Women also dominated the 3000 meter run, placing 7 runners in the top 12 out of 15 contestants. Melissa Hardy won the race in a time of 10:18.28.  The next StFX finisher was Natalie Kannenberg (10:40.71) in 4th place, followed by Natasha Herron (11:08.19) in 7th, Alexa Zarins (11:16.60) in 8th, Meggie Soehl (11:21.25) in 9th place, Alyson Woods (11:34) in 10th place and Ginny Anderson (11:43.98) in 12th place.

On the field events side of the meet, the X-Women had one competitor in the long jump and two in the triple jump. Bridget Brennan (4.63m) finished 8th place in the long jump out of 19 entrants with a jump of 4.63m. In the triple jump competition Susie Lajoie finished 4th place at 10.23m, while Rebecca  Bell was 7th place at 9.96m.

Next on the schedule, the X-Women will travel to Montreal, QC to compete in the popular McGill Open which runs January 28th and 29th and features competitors from both the RSEQ and OUA conferences.
