X-Women track and field open season at Moncton meet
The X-Women track and field team travelled to Moncton NB, this past Saturday to compete in their first meet of the season. The StFX team competed in the 60 and 300m dash, the 600, 1000, 1500 and 3000m run, 60m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, shot put and the weight throw.

In the 60 meter dash, X-Women runners finished 8th, 12th and 14th respectively.  Bridgit Brennan ran the dash in 8.35 seconds, Cassie Dobsoh ran a time of 8.50 seconds and Monica Mitchell ran an 8.62.  In the 300 meter dash StFX placed 6 runners in the top 14.  Eilish MacQuarrie finished 3rd place with a time of 44.13 seconds, while Heidi Stirling and Bridget Brennan finished 6th and 7th respectively with times of 44.88 and 45.26 seconds.  Also competing were Celeste Black (46.9) who finished 10th overall, Monica Mitchell (47.1) who finished 11th and Cassie Dobsoh (47.2) who finished 12th.

In the 600m run, The X-Women swept the top 5 spots. Liz O’Connell (1:43.5) finished in 1st place, Kathryn Tuck (1:45.2) finished second, Heidi Stirling (1:45.3) was third, Chloe Froelich (1:47.1) was fourth and Celeste Black (1.47.5) finished in 5th place.  Also competing was Sarah Deveau who finished in 8th place with a time of (1:52.6). In the 1000m run X-Women runner Chloe Froelich took home 1st place honors with a time of 3:24.7. 

The 1500m run was also a huge success for the X-Women team as they swept the top 11 spots. Veterna runner Kelly Macdonald (4:55.2) finished first, followed by Melissa Hardy (4:59.9) in second, Jessica White (5:00.0) in third, then Liz Oconnell (5:03.0) finished 4th and Kathryn Tuck (5:06.7) finished 5th.  The remaining X-Women who placed were Natasha Herron (5:07.8), Natalie Kannenberg (5:09.6), Tory Anderson (5:11.0), Sarah Deveau (5:22.1), Meggie Soehl (5:22.8) and Lynette Manuel (5:27.5) in sixth through 11th places, respectively. Alex Zrians (5.32.8) also competed for StFX and finished 13th, while Jinny Anderson (5:33.6) was 14th and Emily Taylor (5:38.1) was 17th overall.

The 3000m was also a good showing for the X-Women as they swept the top 5 spots. Kelly MacDonald earned her second 1st place showing of the day, finishing with a time of 10:38.4, followed by teammates Melissa Hardy (10:47:5), Jessica White (10.54.3), Natalie Kannenberg (10:58.6) and Natasha Herron (11:00.2) in second through fifth spots. Other X-Women to finish the 3000m were Meggie Soehl (11:24.2) in 7th place, Alex Zrians (11:56.3) in 10th, Jinny Anderson (11:57.9) in 12th place, Lynette Manuel (12:14.5) in 13th and Emily Taylor (12:39.5) was 15th overall.

In the 60m hurdles Susie Lajoie took home gold when she finished first with a time of 9.91s. In the long jump Lajoie was the highest finishing X-Woman, finishing 5th with a jump of 4.9 meters. Bridget Brennan finished 9th at 4.46m in the same event. In the triple jump Rebecca Bell finished 3rd place at 9.86m for StFX. Rounding out the field events was the shot put and the weight throw in which Lajoie competed in both. She placed 5th in the shot put with with a 10.12m throw and 4th in the weight throw at with 12.26 meters. 

Next on the X-Women schedule is the Nova Scotia Open, coming up in Halifax this Saturday, January 21st.
