X-Women track and field team see action in Montreal

The X-Women track and field team competed in the 17th annual McGill open this past weekend in Montreal in the largest indoor meet in Canada. The X-Women competed in the 60 and 300 meter dash, 600, 1000, 1500 and 3000 meter runs, 4 x 800 meter relay, high jump, long jump and triple jump.

The X-Women had four runners compete in the 60 meter dash. In the 1st heat Bridget Brennan finished in 6th place with a time of 8.41 seconds. Brennan had the best time out of the X-Women as she was followed by Cassie Dobosh, 2nd place in heat 9 at 8.44, Monica Mitchell in 7th place in heat 4 at 8.51 and Morgan Priske finishing 6th place in heat 9 with a time of 8.92. 

In the 300 meter dash the X-Women had a strong presence with seven runners competing. Brennan was again posted the top time for the X-Women, finishing in 2nd place at 43.55 in heat 13.She was followed by Eilish MacQuarrie, who won heat 8 at 44.18, Heidi Stirling, 3rd place in heat 7 at 44.28, Cassie Dobosh, 1st place in heat 10 at 45.21, Celeste Black, 2nd place in heat 10 at 45.69, Monica Mitchell, 4th place in heat 10 at 46.51 and Morgan Priske finishing 2nd place in heat 12 at 46.81.

The 600 meter run saw Celeste Black pace the X-Women with a 1st place showing in heat 7 with a time of 1:42.56. Black was followed by Chloe Froelich, 2nd place in heat 7 at 1:42.87, Eilish MacQuarrie, 2nd place in heat 6 at 1:42.89 and Sarah Deveau in 1st place in heat 8 with a time of 1:45.92. Froelich and Deveau also competed in the 1000m run where Froelich finished 3rd in heat 4 with a time of 3:12.50 and Deveau was 6th in heat 4 at 3:17.69. 

The 1500 meter run featured ten StFX runners. Kelly MacDonald posted the best time amongst all X-Women, finishing in 11th place in heat 1 with a time of 4:43.28. This was also good enough for 11th overall in the race which saw 59 total runners compete.

MacDonald was followed in the 1500m by Jessica White, 1st place in heat 3 at 4:51.91, Liz O’connell, 7th place in heat 3 at 4:54.84, Kathryn Tuck, 5th place in heat 4 at 4:57.99, Tory Anderson, 7th place in heat 4 at 5:00.84, Meggie Soehl, 4th place in heat 5 at 5:12.58, Ginny Anderson, 7th place in heat 5 at 5:20.11, Alyson Woods, 8th place in heat 5 at 5:21.03, Alexa Zarins, 9th place in heat 5 at 5:21.43 and Emily Taylor, 11th place in heat 5 at 5:33.93. 

In the 3000 meter run the X-Women had 7 runners compete. Melissa Hardy led the pack, finishing 4th place in heat 1 with a time of 10:25.62 and 4th place overall in the race that featured 30 runner. Hardy was followed by Kelly MacDonald in 6th place in heat 1 with a time of 10:34.65, Meggie Soehl, 1st place in heat 3 at 11:09.62, Alexa Zarins, 3rd place in heat 3 at 11:25.51, Alyson Woods, 4th place in heat 3 at 11:26.26, Ginny Anderson, 5th place in heat 3 at 11:43.63 and Emily Taylor 7th place in heat 3 at 12:10.34.

The X-Women fielded a team in the 4x800 meter relay race. Liz O`Connell, Jessica White, Kathryn Tuck and Tory Anderson were the foursome for the X-Women who finished 4th place in heat 1 with a time of 9.27.40.

The remaining three events the X-Women competed in at McGill were the high jump, long jump and triple jump, with one StFX athlete participating in each event. Rebecca Bell placed 14thin the high jump at 1.45 meters. Bridget Brennan finished in 7th place in the long jump with a 4.6 meter jump, while Bell was 13th in the triple jump with a 9.88 meter effort.

The X-Women will now have three weeks of competition off before they travel to Halifax on February 18th to compete in the Dalhousie Last Chance meet.
