X-Men track compete favourably at Nova Scotia Open
The StFX X-Men track and field team competed in the Nova Scotia Open this past Saturday at the Canada Games Center in Halifax.  StFX had competitors in the 60m dash, 300m dash, 600m, 1000m, 1500m, and 3000m races, 60m hurdles, long jump and mixed high jump.

In the 60 meter dash the X-Men had 3 runners place in the top 10 out of 25 contestants.  Robert Bird (7.44) finished 7th, followed by Chad Samson (7.57) who finished 8th and Greg Gilroy (7.59) was 10th. The 300m event was a ‘dashing’ success for the blue and white, as Max Maund won the race in a time of 37.25 seconds. Chad Samson was 7th overall in the 300m at 38.68, and Miroslav Novak (40.91) was 16th.

Max Maund (1:25.59) continued his hot start to the day, finishing 2nd place in the 600m run.  Stu MacNeil (1:31.54) also placed in the competition, finishing 5th overall. In the 1000m run, Ben Dun- Doerge (2:39.53) was the top X-Men finisher in 8th spot, while Stu MacNeil (2:50.09) was 12th.

In the 1500m run, the X-Men had a very strong showing. Connor McGuire was the race winner, clocking in at 4:01.98, followed by Bryden Tate (4:04.48) in 4th, Stephen Deering (4:09.84) in 6th and Gabe Quenveille (4:11.47) in 7th place. The momentum continued for the X-Men in the 3000m run.  Aaron Doucette (9:01.88) finished in 2nd place, followed by Mike Tate (9:04.29) in 3rd, Riley Johnston (9:04.51) in 4th, Zach Macdonald (9:17.98) in 5th, Ryan Hatchard (9:32.25) in 7th and Ryan Hawkrigg (9:42.42) was 9th overall. 

In the 60m hurdles, StFX’s Greg Gilroy had a 3rd place showing with a time of 9.43 seconds. Meanwhile in the long jump, Chad Samson came 3rd for the blue and white out of nine competitors. He had a jump of 5.93m. Miroslav Novak was the lone X-Men competing in the mixed high jump and he came 3rd overall with a  1.70m jump amongst a field of 12. 

Next on the schedule for the X-Men is the McGill Open in Montreal next weekend when they will compete for two days on January 28th and 29th amidst a large field of competitors from across the RSEQ and OUA conferences.
