X-Men track compete in Moncton to start 2012 season
The StFX X-Men track and field team competed in the opening meet of the season Saturday in Moncton, NB. The X-Men competed in the 60m dash, 300m dash, 600m run, 1000m run, 1500m run, 3000m run, 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump.

In the 60m dash the X-Men had four players rank in the top 26. Jide Ojuawo (7.45) finished in 7th place, followed by Robert Bird (7.57) in 9th, Greg Gilroy (7.69) in 15th and Chad Samson (7.74) finished 16th.  Sam Babcock also competed but was disqualified.

The 300m dash was a success for the X-Men as they placed five runners in the top 13. Max Maund (38.4) was the top X finisher in 3rd place, while Chad Samson (39.1) finished 6th, Jide Ojuawo (39.2) was 7th, Alex Vanderlinden (40.0) was 8th, and Robert Bird (41.4) finished in 11th place.

The X-Men had a great showing in the 600m run as Ben Dunn George took home silver finishing in 2nd place with a time of 1:28.7. Max Maund (1:31.8) followed him in 3rd place, while Stu MacNeil (1:35.0) was 4th and Alex Vanderlinden (1:35.4) took 5th spot. In the 1000m run the X-Men had one representative, Stu MacNeil, who finished in 5th place with a time of 2:54.7.

The X-Men continued their strong start to the 2012 season as the 1500m run was a big success. Bryden Tate (4:16.8) finished 2nd overall, followed by teammates Riley Johnston (4:19.1), Aaron Doucette (4:24.4) and Ben Dunn George (4.25.5) who were third through fifth, respectively. 

The 3000m run was the most productive for the X-Men as Bryden Tate (9:12.1) won the race, followed again by Riley Johnston (9:13.4) in 2nd position and Aaron Doucette (9:16.9) in 4th place. In the 60m hurdles Greg Gilroy (9.28) finished 4th overall for StFX. 

In the high jump Sam Babcock (1.88m) took home gold, while the long jump saw Chad Samson (6.03m) finish 5th and Gilroy (5.27m) place 9th.

The X-Men continue their schedule this coming weekend when they compete in the Nova Scotia Open on Saturday, January 21st in Halifax.
