MacDonald wins 3000m at DAL Classic

The X-Women track and field team competed at the Dalhousie Classic over the weekend in their final meet prior to the AUS championship.

Four X-Women ran in the 60 m dash, with Eugenia Renderos earning the best finish in second place overall, running 8.25 seconds. Jaclyn Phillips was 4th at 8.54, followed by Trina Kennedy (8.67) in 6th and Sarah Deveau (9.00) in 8th spot.

Renderos also competed in the 300m dash and came third overall, running in at 42.81. Teammate Katie Barnstead was 7th with a run of 46.94.

In the 600m race, three X-Women placed in the top five, including Joelle Marshall in second spot with a time of 1:38.04. Last year’s AUS Rookie of the Year Celeste Black was third at 1:39.25, while Barnstead placed 5th, crossing the line at 1:44.29.

The X-Women didn’t have any runners in the 1000m event, but three distance runners hit the track for the 1500m race and four for the 3000m. In the 1500m, Bre Langley had the top finish for X, coming in third place with a time of 4:54.51. Erin MacNeil (4:56.46) was 5th and Helena Fiore (5:09.08) was 10th.

In the women’s 3000m race, Kelly MacDonald cracked the 10 minute mark for the first time this season and ran a 9:58.78 into first place. Bree Bates placed 4th overall with a 10:29.77 run, while Erin MacNeil (10:30.25) was 5th and Helena Fiore (11:02.82) was 9th.

Sarah Deveau was the lone StFX participant in the women’s hurdles, placing 6th amongst 8 competitors with a time of 11.81.

The X-Women also had a pair of competitors in each of the high jump and shot put events. Rebecca Bell placed 5th in the high jump with a 1.50m jump, followed by teammate Mairead Davidson who jumped 1.45m in 6th place. Bobbi-Jo Cronk placed second in the shot out with a throw of 10.46m, while Chantal Paris was fourth at 10.25m.

The X-Women will prepare this week for the AUS championship which takes place this weekend at the Universite de Moncton on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28. Dalhousie has taken home the AUS banner for the past 20 consecutive years, dating back to the 1989-90 season. The X-Women have never won an AUS team title.
