X-Women compete at DAL meet

The X-Women indoor track team travelled to Halifax Sunday for their second meet of the season hosted by Dalhousie University.

The StFX team competed in the 300m, 600, 1000m and 3000m running events, along with the shot put and weight throw.

\r\n

In the 300m race, X-Women runners placed second, third and fourth as Joelle Marshall ran 42.4 seconds into second place, followed by teammates Eugenia Renderos (43.0) in third and Celeste Black (43.7) in fourth. Also competing were Heidi Stirling (45.5) who was 8th overall, Katie Barnstead (45.6) in 9thand Sarah Deveau (46.1) in 10th spot.

In the 600m event, Joelle Marshall was again the top StFX finisher, earning another second place finish, as she ran the final in 1:36.8. Celeste Black was fourth overall at 1:42.5. Three other X-Women ran the race as Katie Barnstead (1:43.5), Sarah Deveau (1:46.1) and Trina Kennedy (1:48.1) placed 7th, 8th and 9th, respectively.

Monika Preibischova ran the 1000m race and was three seconds off the pace as she came second overall at 2:56.7. Teammate Paula MacDonald was behind her in third place, finishing in 3:16.4.

X-Women veteran runner Kelly MacDonald ran a personal best in the 3000m event and won the race in a time of 10:02.7. Bree Bates (10:28.4) was fourth, followed by X teammates Natalie Kannenberg (10:55.1) in 7th, Helena Fiore (11:00.2) in 8th, Bre Langley (11:10.1) in 12th, Meggie Soehl (11:16.4) in 13th and Brittany Morris (11:28.4) in 16th.

Chantal Paris and Bobbi-Jo Cronk both competed in the women’s shot put and weight throw events. Paris placed second in the shot put with a throw of 9.64m, followed by Cronk with 9.64m. In the weight throw, Paris was again second overall with an 8.65m throw, and Cronk was fourth at 6.00m.

Next on the X-Women schedule is an interlock meet in Montreal at McGill University on Jan. 29-30.
