X-Women tracksters open season

The X-Women track and field team opened their indoor season with past weekend at an invitational meet in Moncton, NB. Other AUS teams competing included the Universite de Moncton, Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s and Mount Allison, along with several club teams.

In the sprints, X-Woman Eugenia Renderos had a pair of top two finishes amongst AUS competitors. She ran a 44.69 race to win the 300m dash, and was second (third overall) in the 60m dash, running in at 8.27 seconds. Teammates Heidi Stirling and Trina Kennedy also competed in the 300m race. Stirling (46.32) was 2nd amongst AUS runners and 5th overall was Kennedy (48.33) was 7th overall and the 4th AUS runner to cross the finish line.

Six X-Women ran in the 600m race, the only AUS runners competing in that event. Joelle Marshall was the first StFX runner at 1:40.79, and was followed by Celeste Black (1:46.96), Katie Barnstead (1:50.68), Paula MacDonald (1:50.98), Bre Langley (1:51.29) an d Sarah Deveau (1:52.11) in second through sixth spots.

In the 1000m event, StFX runners placed second through sixth behind Saint Mary’s runner and 2009 AUS cross country champion Ashley Ryer (3:01.70). Kelly MacDonald was second for X at 3:11.58, followed by Erin MacNeil (3:19.75), Bre Langley (3:20.81), Helena Fiore (3:22.42) and Paula MacDonald (3:27.70).

Monika Priebischova won the women’s 3000m race and placed second in the 1500m. She ran the 3000 in a time of 10:26.96 and the 1500 in 4:46.42. Ryer won the 1500m in 4:41.98. Four StFX runners followed Priebischova’s placement in the 1500m including Bree Bates (5:13.41) in third, Natalie Kannenberg (5:16.07) in fourth, Meggie Soehl (5:32.72) in fifth and Brittany Morris (5:32.95) in sixth.

In the 3000m race, the StFX runners placed as follows:

StFX runners also participated in the 4x200m relay race, fielding two teams, the only ones to compete in the event. The A team (Eugenia Renderos, Jaclyn Phyllips, Heidi Stirling, Celeste Black) ran the relay in a time of 1:53.59, while the B team (Joelle Marshall, Katie Barnstead, Trina Kennedy, Sarah Deveau) finished in 1:58.90.

In the jumping events, X-Women competed in the long jump and triple jump. Mairead Davidson placed third in the long jump at 4.41m, and was followed by teammate Rebecca Bell in fourth at 4.32m. In the triple jump, Bell was second, jumping in at 9.61m and Davidson was third at 9.45m.

Chantal Paris competed in both the 20lb weight throw and 4kg shot put for StFX. She was third in the weight throw with a 9.99m toss, and was second in the shotput at 9.84m. Fellow X-Woman Bobbi-Jo Cronk won the shot put with a throw of 10.04m.

Next on the indoor meet schedule for the X-Women is an invitational at Dalhousie University in Halifax this Sunday afternoon.
