McNeil 2nd in Johnny Miles marathon

X-Men cross country runner Daniel McNeil placed second overall this past weekend in the annual Johnny Miles marathon held in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

McNeil, a native of Glace Bay, NS finished the grueling event in damp weather under the three-hour mark with a time of 2:42:12 minutes. David MacLennan (Scotsburn, NS) won the event with a pace of 2:40:37 minutes. The marathon drew 103 competitors.

\r\n

McNeil is a five-year veteran runner and past captain of the X-Men cross country squad. He recently completed his fifth and final year of eligibility with the AUS champions last fall and was also a member of the X-Men indoor track team.

His StFX teammate Ivan Lewis earned a third place finish in the Johnny Miles 10k race. Lewis, a native of New Glasgow, NS, ran a personal best time in the event, finishing at 34:24. He too was a member of the AUS champion X-Men cross country team last fall and is currently entering his third year at StFX in the Business Administration program.

Robert Jewer (Halifax) won the race with a time of 33:11, followed by Rami Bardeesy (Halifax) at 34:11 in second place. A total of 468 male and female runners crossed the finish line in the 10k Classic. X-Women cross country 2008 alumnus Robyn Erickson was second amidst female competitors and ninth overall in the 10k race, finishing with a time of 37:36.

The annual event featured the full marathon, half marathon, 10k race, 5k race and a Student Challenge, drawing over 1500 competitors in the five events. For complete results from all races, click here.
