DAL meet primer for AUS championship

The X-Women indoor track team participated in the Dalhousie Classic Invitational this past weekend at the Dalplex in Halifax, as they prepare for the upcoming AUS championship tournament taking place this weekend in Moncton.

In the sprinting events Eugenia Renderos, who is currently ranked second in the conference in the 300m and fourth in the 60m placed fifth overall in the 60m event with a time of 8.09 seconds. She was second amongst AUS competitors. In the 60m preliminaries, three other X-Women competed but did not qualify for the final including Katherine Scanell (8.47), Jill Kiley (8.57) and Louise Delaney (8.75).

In the 600m race four X-Women competed including Celeste Black who was third overall finishing at 1:40.88. She was followed by teammates Paula MacDonald (1:41.44) in 7th, Trina Kennedy (1:46.57) in 10th and Katherine Barnstead (1:47.43) in 11th amongst a field of 16 runners.

In the 1500m race, Kelly MacDonald placed third for the X-Women in a time of 4:50.69, while Erin MacNeil was 9th at 5:07.99 and Flynn Regan was 10th at 5:09.45.

The second ranked women’s 4x200m relay team consisting of Eugenia Renderos, Katie Scanell, Janet MacLeod and Celeste Black finished in second place to the top ranked Dalhousie Tigers. The Tigers finished the relay in a time of 1:43.97 while the X-Women posted a time of 1:49.23.

In the shot put event, two X-Women competed amongst seven total participants. Kim Armstrong placed third, throwing 10.63m while teammate Chantal Paris was right behind her in fourth spot throwing 10.27m. Both also competed in the 35lb weight throw with Armstrong winning the event with a throw of 11.17m, followed by Paris in second spot at 10.91m.

The X-Women will now prepare for the AUS championship meet which is taking place this weekend, Feb. 28 and Mar. 1 at Moncton University.
