X-Women 4x200m team wins top spot at DAL meet

The StFX track and field team participated in their second indoor meet of the season this past Sunday at Dalhousie University in Halifax, with several team members participating in both sprint and long distance events.

On the women’s side, the X-Women 4x200m team consisting of Eugenia Renderos, Katie Scannell, Janet MacLeod and Celeste Black, placed first with a time of 1:47.0, defeating Dalhousie who has dominated the sprint relay events in the past.

In individual sprint races, six X-Women competed in the 300m dash, with Celeste Black earning the top X showing in 4th place (42.6), followed by Eugenia Renderos in 5th with a time of 42.9. Katherine Scanell was 7th (43.5), followed by teammates Janet MacLeod (43.8) in 8th, Trina Kennedy (45.1) in 9th and Jill Kiley (47.1) in 11th amongst the field of 17 competitors. Nova Scotia Olympian Adrienne Power won the event in a time of 39.1.

In the 600m sprint, Katie Barnstead was the lone StFX competitor and she placed 8th overall with a time of 1:46.5.

In the women’s 1000m race, Paula MacDonald earned a 2nd place showing for the X-Women, crossing the line at 3:04.2. Breana Langley (3:11.0) was 6th, followed by Allison Trenholm (3:27.3) in 8th spot, Tansey Summers-Lubar (3:45.9) in 10th and Sarah Cox (3:56.5) in 12th.

The 3000m distance event featured six X-Women competitors amidst the field of 19 with Kelly MacDonald taking top spot and winning the race in a time of 10:42.4. Helena Fiore (11:02.7), Bree Bates (11:06.4) and Erin MacNeil (11:10.7) finished 4th, 5th and 6th respectively, while Regan Flynn (11:20.6) was 10th overall. Tathnee O’Meara (11:56.7) and Amanda Hardwick (12:13.8) rounded out the X finishers in 13th and 14th spots.

Next on the schedule for the X-Men is an interlock meet at McGill University in Montreal on January 30-31.
