Courtesy of The Chronicle-Herald June 6, 2008 - Antigonish’s Eric Gillis is the fastest Canadian in the 10,000 metres. Gillis, the defending national champion in the 25-lap, 10-kilometre race, recaptured the Canadian crown with a time of 29 minutes 28.1 seconds, outdistancing runner-up Dylan Wykes of Kingston, Ont. by nearly a minute Wednesday night at the University of Toronto Varsity Centre. Gillis now lives in Guelph, Ont. The Canadian 10,000 metres Championships serve as the selection trials for the 2008 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Toluca, Mexico, July 18-20. They also serve as the selection trials for the 10,000-metre event at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
