X-Women sweep 1500m

Jan 21, 2008 - X-Women indoor track runner Heather Mosher led the field in a StFX sweep of the top four AUS finishers in the women’s 1500m event held Sunday at the Dalhousie Tigers Indoor Opener. Mosher ran the race in a time of 4:45.5, placing her in the top 12 in the CIS in that event. She was followed by teammates Sarah Skotty in second (4:46.5) Gina Stewart in third (4:47.0) and Robyn Erickson in fourth (4:50.2). Also participating in the 1500m race were Bre Langley (5:01.2) who finished sixth, Kaitlyn Watters (5:06.3) in seventh, Helena Fiore (5:06.3) in eighth and Bree Bates (5:15.6) in tenth. Former X-Women track and cross country star Erin MacLean entered as an independent runner and posted the top time of 4:36.9. In the men’s 1500m event, StFX had five runner take part including Lee McCarron who was the top X finisher amongst the AUS competitors, finishing in fourth place at 4:02.6. Dan MacNeil (4:10.0) and Brent Addison (4:11.8) finished in fifth and sixth place respectively, while Ivan Lewis was tenth (4:26.4) and Sam Mason was twelfth (4:37.6). In the sprinting events, X-Women runners participated in the 300m dash, the 600m run and the 4x200m relay race. Eugenia Renderos was the top X runner in the 300m dash amongst fellow AUS sprinters, finishing in fourth place with a time of 42.5. teammate Margaret Hughes followed in fifth place in 44.4, while Janet MacLeod was sixth (44.5) M.C. Boudreau was seventh (46.2) and Katherine Barnstead was eighth (47.3). In the women’s 600m run, Paula MacDonald placed seventh overall in a time of 1:46.4. X-Women Dee Smith and Marika Pittman also participated with Smith placing eighth (1:49.4) and Pittman finishing ninth (1:59.7). In the women’s 4x200m relay race, the X team consisting of Renderos, Hughes, Boudreau and Barnstead placed second with a time of 1:51.9. First place went to the Dalhousie Tigers (1:43.3). Next on the indoor track team’s schedule is an invitational meet at McGill University in Montreal this upcoming weekend, Jan. 26-27. The meet will be a good test for the StFX contingent who will face strong out-of-conference competition and will also see a preview of the venue for the upcoming CIS national championships.
