Indoor track season opens

Jan 17, 2008 - The StFX indoor track team opened their season recently by participating in an invitational meet at the Université de Moncton. StFX sent athletes who participated in the women’s long jump, triple jump, shot put and sprinting events, under the direction of coach Lindsay Tasche. Four AUS teams participated in the meet; joining the X contingent in competition were Saint Mary’s, Dalhousie and Moncton. X-Woman Laura Himmelman was the sole StFX competitor in the jumping events and she finished first in the triple jump (9.83m) and second in the long jump event (4.35m). In the women’s shot put, Karla MacInnis placed fourth overall with a throw of 8.31m. The winning throw (12.09m) went to Lindsay Jones of Dalhousie. In the 60 meter dash, six X-Women competed in the field of 19 runners. Eugenia Renderos placed 6th with a time of 8.31, and was followed by four teammates from seventh through tenth places. Margaret Hughes ran the race in 8.48 seconds, Janet MacLeod was eighth with 8.56, followed by Laura Himmelman (8.72) and Katie Barnstead (8.74). Mary Claire Boudreau finished 13th overall at 9.01. In the 300 meter sprint, five of the seven competitors came from X including Hughes in third place with a time of 44.47, followed by MacLeod in fourth (46.20) Renderos in fifth (46.70) Barnstead in sixth (47.29) and Boudreau in seventh (47.93). Rounding out the events was the women’s 4x200m relay with the X-Women team made up of Renderos, Hughes, Boudreau and Himmelman. They finished the relay in second place behind Dalhousie while Moncton placed third. Next up on the schedule for the track team is a meet at Dalhousie University on Jan. 19.
