Soccer X-Men play to 1-1 draw with Capers

The StFX X-Men played a close and exciting game in Sydney, NS Friday night, coming away with a 1-1 draw with the Cape Breton Capers.

The X-Men currently sit with a 4-2-2 record on the season, as they play only the one game this weekend on the AUS schedule.

The Capers (1-2-3) picked up their third tie this season and will travel to Sackville, NB Sunday to face the Mount Allison Mounties.

X-Men goalkeeper Steven Rodenhizer made some key saves in the StFX net to keep the X-Men in the game, including a big stop on a penalty kick by Capers striker Ian Greedy.

After playing a scoreless first half, Greedy got the Capers on the board in 61st minute.

The lead held until the 74th minute when second year X-Men defender Serge Dossou banged in a goal to tie the game.

The Capers thought they scored the go ahead goal late in the second half but were called back due to an offside infraction. The teams were held off the score board through to the end of 90 minutes of play as the 1-1 tie held.

Ethan McInnis backstopped the Capers in goal while Rodenhizer remains undefeated in the StFX net with a 1-0-2 record to date.

X-Men associate coach Mira Novak commented, "It was high-paced game in both directions, and Steve Rodenhizer kept us in the game with a few big saves. It was a very entertaining game for fans."

Next on the schedule for the X-Men is a game in Halifax on Friday, October 4th against the Saint Mary's  Huskies. StFX will then host the Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday, October 6th at 3:15 pm in StFX Homecoming action.
