Rugby remain No. 1 in nation, Men's soccer No. 4

CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#5)
No changes atop national rankings

OTTAWA (CIS) – There are no changes this week atop the CIS national rankings in soccer, rugby and cross country running.

In women’s soccer, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, CIS silver medallists a year ago, remain at No. 1 for the fourth straight week following shutout wins against Brock (3-5-2), 1-0, and Guelph (2-5-1), 4-0. The Hawks, who improved to a perfect 9-0 in OUA play, host Western (3-6) on Wednesday night in their lone game of the week.

Montreal (7-0-1) and reigning CIS champion Queen’s (8-0-1) hold on to the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

In men’s soccer, the defending CIS champion York Lions (6-0-3) top the rankings for the fifth time in as many coaches’ poll this season. The Lions, who blanked Waterloo (2-7) 4-0 last week, visit McMaster (6-2-2) and Brock (3-5-3) on Thanksgiving weekend.

UBC (4-0-3) remains second in the new poll, while Cape Breton (6-0-1) moves up one spot to round out the leading trio.

In women’s rugby, the reigning national champion St. Francis Xavier X-Women easily improved to 4-0 in AUS action thanks to a 53-0 domination of UPEI (2-2), their second win in two weeks over the Panthers. The X-Women, who have led each of the five coaches’ polls so far this fall, are at Acadia (2-2) on Wednesday.

Undefeated Guelph (4-0), Laval (4-0), Lethbridge (3-0) and McMaster (4-0) still follow in order in the rankings.

In cross country, Guelph tops both men’s and women’s rankings for the second consecutive week. The Gryphons have captured the last six CIS women’s titles and five straight men’s banners – both all-time records.

McMaster and Victoria are second and third on the women’s side, while Windsor and Western Ontario complete the men’s top three.
