Soccer X-Men drop 4-1 decision to Capers

The CIS ranked No. 9 StFX X-Men lost 4-1 to the CIS No. 2 and AUS league-leading Cape Breton University Capers in AUS soccer action Friday evening in Sydney. Conference scoring leader Keishen Bean tallied a hat-trick in the game to lead the Capers.

Greg Whitting opened the scoring for the Cape Breton in the 21st minute as they came out playing strong against the X-Men. Michael Marousek, with his tenth goal of the season, tied the score for the X-Men shortly after in the 27th minute.

Bean’s three goals then came in an 18-minute span over the first and second halves. He scored the game winner in the 39th minute to give the Capers a 2-1 lead at half-time. He followed up with goals in the 54th and 57th minutes to up his league-leading tally to 14 goals on the season.

The Capers outshot the X-Men by a 15-8 margin with keeper Andrew Murphy earning the win in nets with 7 saves. StFX netminder Andrew MacDonald had 11 saves on the night.

With the loss, the blue and white record drops to 6-3-3 on the regular season. The X-Men return to action Sunday afternoon when they host the Saint Mary’s Huskies (4-2-6) at StFX Oland Stadium. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
