CIS No. 3 X-Men still undefeated

The CIS ranked No. 3 X-Men soccer team remain undefeated after a 4-2 victory over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus Sunday afternoon at StFX Oland Stadium.

Michael Marousek scored two goals for the X-Men who held a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Paul Oppenheim scored in the opening minute of the game for StFX off a rebound from teammate Jamar Dixon’s shot. Marousek notched his first of the game in the 21st minute to give the X-Men the early 2-0 lead. He scored on a hard shot from a nice passing play by Dixon who gained his second assist in the game.

The Aigles Bleus came out strong in the second half, scoring a goal in the 47th minute and again in the 48th minute. Bourama Simpara scored the first Moncton goal unassisted while teammate Maxime Ferlatte scored the tying goal quickly after, also unassisted.

The X-Men didn’t wait long to regain the lead as Marousek scored his second of the game in the 54th minute knocking in a header off a Randy Ribeiro cross.

Freshman Martin Vlk rounded out the StFX scoring in the game as he redirected a free kick from Ribeiro in the 60th minute. Vlk also earned Player of the Game honors for the X-Men.

Keeper Andrew MacDonald earned the win in nets for StFX. He had five saves in the game as the X-Men outshot the Aigles Bleus 20-12. Arnaud St-Jacques took the loss for Moncton.

StFX improves to 5-0-2 on the season and currently sits in second place in the AUS conference with 17 points, two back of first place Cape Breton. They have the Thanksgiving weekend off and will return to play on Oct. 15th and 16th with games in Halifax against Dalhousie (3-3-1-) and Saint Mary’s (2-0-4).
