Soccer X-Men defeat MtA, earn draw with UPEI

The CIS ranked No. 3 X-Men soccer team earned a win and a draw this past weekend as they defeated Mount Allison 2-0 and tied UPEI 1-1.

On Saturday afternoon in Sackville, NB, the X-Men had first half goals by Jamar Dixon and Ryan Casey to give them the victory. Dixon’s goal came unassisted in the 30th minute while Casey scored just before half-time in the 45th minute, also an unassisted marker.

StFX goalkeeper Steven Rodenhizer earned the shutout victory for the X-Men, recording 6 saves on goal. The X-Men outshot the Mounties by a 16-7 margin.

In Sunday afternoon’s game in Charlottetown, the X-Men held a 1-0 lead over the UPEI Panthers for a good portion of the game, but the Panthers salvaged the tie with a late goal by Dillon Wight. The X-Men gave up a corner kick in the 84th minute and the Panthers connected to even the game and hold onto the tie.

The X-Men’s lone goal came from freshman defender Randy Ribiero in the 41st minute. Ribiero one-timed a crossed pass from Jamar Dixon to beat Panthers goalkeeper Dave Feener. Andrew MacDonald was in nets for StFX.

With the four point weekend, the X-Men currently hold a 4-0-1 record and sit atop the AUS standings in a tie with Saint Mary’s for first place. Next on the schedule for the X-Men are two games at Oland Stadium on Homecoming weekend. Dalhousie (3-2-0) will be in town on Friday, Sept. 30th for a 7:15 game, while StFX will host Moncton (2-2-1) on Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 3:15 pm.
