No. 6 X-Men improve to 2-0-0

The CIS ranked No. 6 StFX X-Men improved to 2-0-0 on the season after a 3-0 shutout win over the Acadia Axemen Friday night in Wolfville, NS, their second win over the Axemen this past week. This victory was more comfortable than their 4-3 come-from-behind win last week.

The teams played to a scoreless first half before veteran X defender Miro Novak broke the tie with an unassisted marker in the 51st minute.

The X-Men carried the momentum through the second half as reigning AUS Player of the Year Michael Marousek scored two more goals to seal the 3-0 victory. Marousek’s first goal came off a corner kick in the 79th minute, while his second unassisted tally came late in the game in the 88th minute.
Keeper Andrew MacDonald faced only two shots to earn the win in nets for the X-Men. Eric McGarry took the loss for the Axemen who fall to 0-3 on the season.

The X-Men will return to StFX Oland Stadium Sunday afternoon to host the Memorial Seahawks (1-1-0) in their home opener at 3:15 pm. Sunday’s game is Minor Soccer Day at StFX, all youth aged 16 and under will be admitted free of charge.
