November 4, 2009 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2009 men's soccer all-star teams as selected by the conference's head coaches following regular season play.

\r\n

The first place and CIS No. 3 ranked Cape Breton Capers had two players named to the first team and took home a total of five all-star selections this season, including AUS and CIS scoring leader Keishen Bean, who netted 11 goals in 13 games this season. Joining Bean on the first team is freshman midfielder Andrew Rigby. Second year striker Shayne Hollis, fifth year midfielder Jason Davis and third year fullback Antonio Lowe were the other Capers players honoured with second team selections. Bean, Rigby and Hollis are each all-stars for the first time in their careers while Davis and Lowe were both second team AUS all-stars in 2008. Hollis finished second in team scoring and tied for sixth in AUS scoring with six goals this season.

The second place, CIS No. 8 ranked Dalhousie Tigers, reigning AUS men's soccer champions, took home three of the eleven available spots on the first team. Fifth year striker Michel Daoust-Wheatley, fourth year midfielder Ross Hagen and second year back Kerry Weymann were the Tigers named to the squad. Daoust-Wheatley led the Tigers with six goals this season, while Hagen netted four goals and Weymann, the 2008 AUS Rookie of the Year, scored twice this year. Hagen was also a conference all-star in 2007 and 2008, and was named a second team CIS all-Canadian last season. Dalhousie keeper Ben Ur, last season's AUS playoff MVP, was named to the second team for the second year in a row.

\r\n

In total, eight of the conference's top 10 scoring leaders were named AUS all-stars, including UPEI's Jimmie Mayaleh and Moncton's Patrick Gautreau, who each recorded seven goals this season.

\r\n

Other notable selections include four-time AUS all-star and 2007 AUS Player of the Year Ken Morrison of UNB; 2008 AUS Player of the Year Olivier Babineau of Moncton; and StFX striker Michael Marousek, who's 10 goals this season were second only to CBU's Bean in CIS regular season play. Marousek, an all-star for the third time in his career, is the current active scoring leader in the conference with 23 career goals in three seasons at StFX.
