X-Men hand Tigers first loss

The X-Men soccer team handed the Dalhousie Tigers their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon at StFX Oland Stadium as they earned a 2-0 shutout.

X-Men striker Michael Marousek scored off a penalty kick in the 41st minute after Tigers keeper Ben Ur was issued a yellow card for interfering with Jamar Dixon as both athletes were charging for the ball.

\r\n

Defender Mira Novak added the insurance marker for the X-Men 15 minutes into the second half and Andrew MacDonald earned the shutout win in nets for the home team.

\r\n

On sunny Sunday afternoon at Oland Stadium, the X-Men and Saint Mary’s Huskies each had ample scoring chances in each half of the game but neither team could break the goose egg, as they played to a 0-0 draw.

\r\n

Player of the Game Andrew MacDonald again earned the shutout in nets for the X-Men, who improved to 4-4-3 and 15 points on the season after the weekend tie and win.

\r\n

StFX currently sits in fifth place overall in the AUS conference, one point ahead of sixth place Moncton and 5 up on seventh place Saint Mary’s. X and Moncton each have two games remaining on the season while SMU has one.

\r\n

The X-Men travel to Newfoundland for a pair of games against the 10th place Memorial Seahawks (1-7-3). The AUS playoffs are scheduled for Nov. 6-8 at Dalhousie University.
