Marousek & Hunter named AUS 1st team all-stars

The StFX X-Men had four athletes named as AUS all-stars this week. Striker Michael Marousek and Back Rory Hunter were named AUS first team all-stars while midfielder Jamar Dixon and back Miroslav Novak were named AUS second team all-stars. The men's soccer AUS championship is taking place this weekend at Mount Allison University, though the X-Men finished in 7th spot overall and failed to qualify.

2008 Men's Soccer All-Stars Announced
October 29, 2008 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2008 men's soccer all-star teams as selected by the conference's head coaches following regular season play.

The UNB Varsity Reds, Saint Mary's Huskies, Dalhousie Tigers and StFX X-Men all had two players selected to this year's first squad, while Mount Allison, UPEI and the Université de Moncton each had one player chosen.

\r\n

Among the first team selections are three of the league's top six scoring leaders, including UPEI's Paul Craig, who tied for the conference lead with 10 goals this season, Jonathan McNeil of Saint Mary's and Michael Marousek of StFX who each netted six goals. Also on the first team is last year's Atlantic University Sport Most Valuable Player and all-Canadian Ken Morrison of UNB along with Saint Mary's fifth year keeper Matt Hogg, who is a former all-Canadian and a first team selection for the third time in his career.

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus, StFX X-Men and Cape Breton Capers each had two players named to the 2008 second team, while UNB, Saint Mary's, Dalhousie, UPEI and Acadia each had one player recognized.

High scoring teammates Maxime Ferlatte and Patrick Gautreau of Moncton were honoured, as was Acadia striker Jonathan Hammond who finished with six goals. Ferlatte tied for the league lead in goals with 10, while Gautreau was third in scoring with seven markers this season. Ferlatte's 10 goals tied a Moncton school record set 24 years ago in 1984 when Michel Blanchard also netted 10. Hammond's six goals were the highest total by an Axemen player since Matt Brannon's seven goals in 2001.

Last year's Rookie of the Year, Miroslav Novak of StFX, and UPEI's Nathan Snowie are the only second team players to have been previously recognized as conference all-stars while the other nine players are all first time selections.
