X-Men Soccer Slide at Home

The X-Men soccer team let two games slide away from them at home this past weekend as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Saint Mary's Huskies on Friday and a 5-2 loss to the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Sunday.

Friday's game was close with the X-Men opening the scoring in the game as Michael Marousek hit the back of the net at the 34 minute mark. Huskies Giuseppe Scichilone tied it up just six minutes later and although the X-Men had several scoring chances throughout the second half, they couldn't put it by Huskies goaltender and Player of the Game Matt Hogg. Jonathan McNeil earned the game winning goal for Saint Mary's  at the 75 minute mark on a ball that ping-ponged through to the X net. San Boateng was named Player of the Game for StFX.

Sunday afternoon in Antigonish, the X-Men were faced with an early 2-0 deficit as Moncton's Patrick Gautreau and Maxime Ferlatte scored goals in the first and tenth minutes. X-Men defender Miroslav Novak got the X-Men back in the game with two gaols of his own at the 13 and 24 minute marks. Gautreau would earn a hat trick on the game as he scored consecutive goals one minute apart just before the end of the first half to increase Moncton's lead to 4-2. Olivier Babineau scored the fifth Moncton goal at the 71 minute mark in the second half as they earned a four-point win.

With the two losses, the X-Men (3-3-3) drop to a fifth place tie in the AUS standnings with Cape Breton (2-4-3), who they will host next Friday, Oct. 17 at 4:15 pm. All teams are off for the Thanksgiving weekend. The X-Men will also play Sunday, Oct. 19 in PEI as they take on the sixth place Panthers (4-3-3).
